Judging by Ryan's comments it appears the Jets won't be after a quterback in Round 1 as your most recent Mock Draft suggests. Who do you see now going to the Jets at pick #17?
10:58
Well, I still don't think it's out of the question that the Jets take Freeman at No. 17. They have the luxury - at least in Ryan's mind - of bringing someone along. So at this point, I'd stick with Freeman. If I make a change, it will be for the best available receiver at that point, maybe Percy Harvin or Darrius Heyward-Bey.

I have come to the conclusion that Plax is coming back. By the fact the Giants haven't gotten a replacement, and have seemingly only marginally attempted, and with Osi saying most first time offenders usually get probation (Puff Daddy was also caught with a gun in NYC, no jail), and that Bloomberg wanted to prosecute to the full extent of the law because Plax was a celeb (which will mean even more so that he must be treated as anyone, so probation is even more likely), and all his teammates that are talking seem to be talking very positively about him, as are Giants staff, and that this could be what makes him straighten out and fly right. What do you think about Plax being back next season?
11:01
LTmLT: I've learned not to guess in these matters, so I think we have to see what happens next Tuesday in court. I don't know that Osi Umenyiora saying he's heard that Plax will get probation is enough to be convinced that he's coming back.

As for the team not getting a replacement, remember, it's VERY early in the process still. The draft is a month away, and there is still a possibility of dealing for a receiver. I'm still skeptical that Plax is back next year, but I will say that if he clears up his legal situation AND he shows a willingness to go about his business without the nonsense, then he would be back.

[Comment From OSM]
If it came to a bidding war between the Giants and Eagles for any of the blue-chip trade prospects (Boldin, Edwards, Gonzalez), who do you think could/would offer the better package?
11:02
Good question, OSM, and I'm not positive on that one, because both teams have multiple high-round picks to deal. Quite honestly, all three of those receivers/tight end you mentioned could very well remain with their respective teams. I'm sure the Giants will attempt to get one of them, but it's just impossible to know what will happen until the trade talks begin in earnest, and that just hasn't happened. (Edwards discussions were exploratory and went nowhere).

[Comment From BRaby]
What do the Browns really expect in return for Edwards, and what do you think the Giants are willing to give up to get him?
11:04
I'm sure the Browns would like to recoup a first-round pick for a first-round receiver, and I think that giving up No. 27 is not ridiculous for the Giants. My sense is they do not want to give up players (I know for a fact they're not dealing away Kiwanuka). As for receivers to give up, I think Moss is expendable, but they want to keep Smith and Manningham. Hixon a possibility if it means completing the deal, but the Giants do like him.

Bob, it looks like the NFL will expand the regular season from 16 games to either 17 or 18 games which also means the Super Bowl most likely will be play on Presdient's Day weekend in the near future. I know you are against it for reasons such as injuries. But if it does happen, how will FOX, CBS,NBC, and ESPN along with the Players be comprehensive for 2 extra regular season games?
11:05
Dennis, I still don't know that it's a lock they go to 17 or 18. Goodell said it won't be until at least 2011 when that happens, and really, the only way it does happen is if the players agree to it in their next negotiation on the CBA. The formula for splitting revenue is pretty straightforward (it's just a bigger financial pie), but the key is to get the players to agree to it.

I keep hearing that Tynes is going to be the Giants kicker next year. With all the draft picks the G-men have, what do you think the chances are they take a kicker in the late rounds? Someone who can compete with Tynes and can kick a touchback once in awhile.
11:07
Yes, Tynes will be the guy and yes, kickoffs continue to be an issue with him (although they were a bigger issue with Carney). Sure, it's possible they draft a kicker lower down, but they can just as easily sign a street free agent or a free agent out of college, so there will be at least 2 kickers in training camp.

[Comment From Adam]
I really don't want Jay Cutler on the Jets, am I in the minority? We would have to trade too much, he has a bad attitude, and he would need a huge new deal. Also, I remember after playing them last year Kerry Rhodes didn't like Cutlers mouth during the game.
11:08
I think you are probably in the minority, Adam, but I'm right there with you, for a lot of the same reasons you mention. Listen, Cutler is an upgrade to what the Jets now have, but he is a gunslinger, and Rex Ryan prefers a more ball-control offense that emphasizes the running game. I'm for seeing what Clemens or Ratliff can do, and maybe drafting Freeman as the longer-term answer.

The NFL pass 4 new rule changes yesterday. What do you think of the changes?

[Comment From MattieC]
Bob, whats your opionion on the new NFL safety rules
11:10
I like any new rule that makes the game safer, and these rules do make the game safer. I suppose the most controversial one is where the defensive players can no longer lunge for the quarterback once they're on the ground (as was the case when Tom Brady gets hurt). I do sympathize with defensive players, who are the ones ultimately having to change their games to reflect these rules ... I also like the rules against the wedge on kickoffs and limiting onsides "bunches" to no more than five players.
