Crappy Hour, July 10, 2009

8:49
Megan -  It appears we've been stood up.
8:50
Megan's Brain -  That is does. I like you and all, but we work at home by ourselves, it's kind of nice to have conversations with other people.
8:51
Megan -  Anna wants us just to write the "News at 10," but...
8:51
Megan's Brain -  Sigh.
8:52
Megan -  I think making this a more masturbatory hour is a better plan.
8:53
Megan's Brain -  If only John Ensign had considered masturbation a viable option, his parents would not have had to pay off his mistress, her husband and their kids.
8:54
Megan -  I'm afraid I've got to turn to Josh Marshall for this:

Which is more emasculating? Getting paid a hundred grand by the guy who screwed your wife? Or being a fifty-something United States senator and still needing mom and dad to cut the check to pay off your mistress and her husband?
8:57
Megan's Brain -  This is where I get confused. I think Hampton demanding the money is pretty dickish, frankly, but if you're wife's gonna get fucked and you're going to buy into the idea that John Ensign was some sort of sexual Svengali she couldn't possibly resist and that her "inability" to resist had nothing to do with your lack of skills in bed or contempt for you (that, say, might be evidenced by the fact that she's telling you that kind of tall tale) without already feeling emasculated, I think you take the cash.

And, if you can't buy the silence of the husband of your mistress with your own money because you're a U.S. Senator, of course you launder it through your parents.
8:58
Megan -  I do have to agree, Hampton stuck around for, what, like 6 more months after he got Tom Coburn to pressure Ensign into writing the letter while his wife kept fucking the dude, I'm thinking he's already long ago given up on feeling humiliation, which is why he's on the television talking about how good John Ensign was giving it to his wife.
9:00
Megan's Brain -  I mean, also, where does Hampton get off asking for money to be made financially whole, since every job he's had since leaving Ensign's office, Ensign got him? It's not like he was making less money as a lobbyist than a Hill staffer.
