Yankes and Mets Live-Blog

7:00
Hello everyone welcome to the live blog for tonight!
7:04
Here's an update on the whole Omar Minaya-Adam Rubin issue: Jeff Wilpon apologized to Adam Rubin today during a talk with the media in the dugout today. He did say too that Omar Minaya is the GM and will continue to be. Nice move, but it doesn't change the fact that Rubin's job has been made very difficult to do and that Minaya is not very smart!

Here's a link to some of Omar's other comments: http://www.metsblog.com/2009/07/28/news-remarks-from-jeff-wilpon/

In non-baseball news, Brett Favre has decided to stay retired. Sources say the world is rejoicing!
7:07
If Favre stays out the whole season, I'll be surprised! If Favre never returns as a player in the NFL, I'll be shocked!
7:16
Not a good start for Mike Pelfrey. After a strikeout of Dexter Fowler, Seth Smith doubles and Todd Helton walks. Yankees go down 1-2-3 in the first vs. Kazmir.
7:19
Wow! Hawpe goes down looking and Tulowitzki grounds into a force. Pelfrey escapes trouble
7:20
Reports out now that the Mariners have made Jarrod Washburn "officially available." They have informed the Yankees, and they will make an offer soon.
7:23
WOW! How in the world did the Yankees turn that double play? Cano ranges up the middle, fields the ball, flips to Jeter on his way to 2nd, and Teixeira with a full dive to grab Jeter's throw and keep his foot on the bag. Great turn!
7:26
A-Rod with a leadoff single and a steal of 2nd. 7-for-7 on stolen bases this year. Impressive for a guy who just had hip surgery. Meanwhile, David Wright gets caught swiping 2nd after a 2-out single.
