Monday Bills chat

Mark Gaughan -  Good morning BIlls fans. Well, I'm not exactly sure what's good about it ... Good morning to everyone who has their health. ... If you have the strength, I'm ready for an hour of Bills/NFL talk.

Good morning, Mark. First off, let me say that I agree with Jerry’s column this morning that DJ has to go. But that is simplifying a situation much more complex than “fire the head coach and we are good to go.” No fan would argue that DJ is a good coach who deserves to stay, but, seriously, would any coach at this point get a lot more out of the lack of talent the front office has put on the field?? This team is NOT going to get better until it cleans house top to bottom and installs quality personnel at every level. This is easier said than done, and because Ralph would probably not live long enough to reap the benefits of re-building from the ground up, this is unlikely to happen. Unfortunately, this team is not going to be an elite team in the foreseeable future. My point is, while fans are right to call for DJ’s job, they should be more vocal about replacing the front office.

Mark Gaughan -  The Bills need an overhaul CJ. I will take issue with just one point you make. Would any coach get more out of the talent on the field. To that I say a resounding yes. A big part of the offense's problems can be pegged to the offensive tackle situation. But just as big a part of the problem is the offense that Jauron has dictated. His plan for the offense - from March to Sept. 10 - was flawed to the core. ... The Bills do not take advantage of personnel matchups. ... In another offensive system, this offensive talent would be better.

Any rumblings that Jauron will be gone this week? Makes sense to me. This thing ain't improving.

Mark Gaughan -  It's hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. Jauron is talking at 12:30 p.m. today, so unless he's announcing his resignation (which he's not), he's still the coach as of this moment. ... I think if they're going to make a change it would be today or Tuesday, but I think Ralph Wilson's opinion as of two weeks ago is a change would do absolutely no good on the field this season. He's probably right about that. It would, however, give fans some consolation.

Mark, does it appear to you that fans have become more apathetic, rather than the anger/depression that was prevalent earlier this year?
11:13
Mark Gaughan -  Well, I have to give the fans a lot of credit for supporting the team yesterday to such a great degree. I agree - just based on fans I've talked to - that people have written them off ... I'd say there's more a sense of hopelessness than I've seen and heard around here since probably 1984 and 1985.

The Bills have the talent to win with a good coach, but not enough talent to win in spite of a bad coach.

Mark, If you were to put a gun to my head and ask me if i thought Jauron was going to get fired, I'd say no way because of his contract, and I'm talking about him coming back next year. Do you think Jauron is at a place where he knows he's not going to get fired because of his salary? I just see all the things the bills front office has done with trading peters, cutting walker, promoting a coach to OC who was broadcasting Bills games from 2 years ago..I think Jauron knows he's lucky to have a job and lets the Bills front off run a muck in hiring subpar players and coaches..your thoughts..
11:16
Mark Gaughan -

Hmm. No he's gone by the end of the year, maybe sooner. ... His contract dictated that he'd be back after last season. ... But they have absolutely no choice but to eat the last two years of the deal - $6 million. ...
