Northwestern Homecoming

10:45
Nathan Lipkin -  This is Nathan Lipkin reporting live from Ryan Field. It's a chilly and rainy Homecoming morning as the 'Cats hope to take home their fifth victory of the season against the Indiana Hoosiers in front of the returning alumni.
10:49
Colin Becht -  This is Colin Becht, alongside Nathan at Ryan Field. We'll be providing live updates of the big plays throughout today's game.
10:54
Nathan Lipkin -  Defensive end Corey Wootton and outside linebacker Ben Johnson return to the starting lineup for today's game, with safety Brad Phillips expected to play off the bench. Freshmen running back Arby Fields and safety Jared Carpenter are in the lineup as well, with Carpenter in there for the injured Phillips.
11:04
Colin Becht -

First play from scrimmage, Darius Willis takes it 70 yards to the house. Great defensive start for the 'Cats.

11:06
Nathan Lipkin -  The 'Cats will take over at their own 29-yard line. Our "seasoned" defense should know that you can't let the running back get around the corner like that. A simple breakdown in discipline and Northwestern faces an early hole. Let's see what Kafka can do.
11:07
Nathan Lipkin -  Not much, apparently. After a rare drop by wide receiver Zeke Markshausen, Stefan Demos will have to punt it away to the Hoosiers. Indiana will start at its own 38-yard line with plenty of momentum.
11:15
Colin Becht -  'Cats D showing a little more intensity on Indiana's second drive. Corey Wooton provided some nice pressure and got himself a sack. That sack gets the 'Cats the ball back at their own 1 yard line after a beautiful punt.
11:27
Colin Becht -  'Cats drive stalls at their own 32. Northwestern continues to use the rugby-style punt to little effectiveness, as Ray Fisher returned the low punt to the Northwestern 28-yard line.
11:31
Nathan Lipkin -  The Hoosiers score again as Ben Chappell pounds it in on the goal line. The 'Cats are really starting to dig themselves into an early hole with unacceptable special teams play, along with a slow and ineffective offense.
11:36
Colin Becht -  Northwestern continues to get nothing going on offense, leading to another three-and-out. At least the special teams was more effectice this time as the 'Cats down Stephen Demos' punt at the Indiana 24.
11:49
Nathan Lipkin -  Willis scores again for the Hoosiers and Indiana goes up 21-0. This is really a dreadful performance on all levels for the 'Cats. The defense can't stop the usually terrible Indiana offense and the offense has been lackluster to say the least.
11:58
Nathan Lipkin -  Sophomore Scott Concannon has been handling most of the running back load, surprisingly. He's mostly been third or fourth on the depth chart, and doesn't really have the speed to get around the edge (like Indiana's Darius Willis has, apparently). Concannon has rushed the ball five times for only 17 yards on the day - but hey, I guess that's pretty good for a Northwestern running back this season.
12:00
Colin Becht -  The 'Cats got as close as the Indiana 8-yard line but couldn't punch it in. Demos hit a 28-yard field goal instead. Hey, at least we're on the board.
12:03
Nathan Lipkin -  This is just getting embarrassing. Ray Fisher returns Demos' kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown, leaving several Wildcats on the ground behind him. The 'Cats need to learn that you have to break down to make a tackle, and not just dive at the kick returner.
12:06
Nathan Lipkin -  Superback Drake Dunsmore is down and hurt after a nice reception for a first down. Dunsmore is clutching his knee, which caused him to sit out all of last season. This would be a devastating loss, as he's been a consistent target for Kafka all year.
12:16
Colin Becht -  Hey, there we go. After the 'Cats' drive was kept alive by a pass interference penalty, Kafka gets into the end zone from a yard out. There's still an 18-point deficit, but it's a start.
12:21
Nathan Lipkin -  The 'Cats will start over at their own 16-yard line with 2:19 left in the half. Will we see some Cardiac 'Cats today? I sure hope so. If Kafka can lead Northwestern down the field for a score before the half, it's still a game.
12:29
Nathan Lipkin -  With 13 seconds left in the half, the 'Cats are on the Indiana 8-yard line. That probably gives Kafka two shots at the end zone to make it interesting, provided he doesn't make a mental mistake.
12:31
Colin Becht -  Touchdown Northwestern. Kafka threw a beautiful touch pass to Markshausen in the back right corner of the end zone. With the deficit down to 11, this game that once seemed on the verge of a blowout now suddenly looks winnable.
12:34
Nathan Lipkin -  It's now hafltime at Ryan Field, with the 'Cats down 28-17. Still a game, though - the second half should be exciting.
