David Mugar -  Having technical difficulties, will answer questions in two minutes.

How close can you get to the barge during the fireworks and have you ever been on it? The public can't get any closer than a few hundred yards as determined by state fire regulations. I have never been on the barge during the July 4th fireworks as I'm producing the event. I have been very close to other firework shows, however.

hi david, when its overcast at dusk in lewis bay, why do they still shoot off fireworks even though no one on the beach can see them? why not reschedule? One of the biggest problems is the storage of live shells in the mortar tubes. It's safer for everyone to fire them even though it's a shame they can't be seen in the cloudy or foggy atmosphere. We'd had to do that twice or three times over the years.

Will you have a "practice" run on Friday night? The concert is exactly, in fact to the second, as people will see and hear on the Fourth. It becomes our television "rain" tape. The fireworks, however, are fired only on the Fourth. (That will happen at about 10:35 p.m.)

[Comment From Dave]
Do you think we'll inevitably hear Neil Diamond do "Coming To America'' on Saturday night with the Pops? There are about 100 other Diamond songs I'd love to hear more. I presume "Sweet Caroline'' is a lock, too! Both the songs you mentioned will be performed on July 3rd and July 4th. The concert is exactly the same both nights, as I said in the question above.

David: Where's the best place to watch the fireworks? Carol: I have always thought that the Cambridge side of the Charles River provides the best and easiest viewing area. It also provides a wonderful view of the Boston skyline in the background.

Do you have any fourth of july traditions you keep from year to year for good luck? Honestly no, not for good luck. For my stomach, I always look forward to devouring one of the Italian sausage sub with peppers and onions. Honestly, the day usually happens so fast it is just a blur and I have to go home at night and watch the DVD recording to see what happened on air.

You happy with Corpoarte control that pushed the fireworks to start now 10:30 p.m instead of 9:30 (reasonable time)? CapeCodder: The sole reason that we start the fireworks at 10:30 p.m. is that we are now live on the CBS Television Network at 10 p.m. The Pops play for approximately for a half an hour. The fireworks show follows. There was in my opinion no corporate control what so ever. It was show business. We don't want to start at 9 p.m. and go head-to-head with NBC's Macy's fireworks show. In four of the last six years we have won the hotly contested ratings battle.

Hey, like how much would it cost to get a marriage proposal in the fireworks display?

David Mugar -

Thank you Starfisher: It's wonderful to hear from you. Do you know I have a Starfish Market in St. John in the Virgin Islands? It does great.
