Chat with Chad Finn at noon

11:42
Boston.com -  Welcome everyone to today's chat with Chad Finn ... Chad will be with us shortly.
12:06
Chad Finn -  Hey guys -- Thanks for stopping by and sorry (as usual) that I'm late -- I was wrapping up a blog post. Looks like there are lot of Halladay trade proposals in the queue already, and I don't see the name Lugo, which is good. Interesting note in a Toronto column this morning suggested Halladay has a little bit of disdain for the NL. Maybe he'll get traded to an AL team after all. Anyway, let's go . . .

[Comment From Chris in RI]
Chad, does Sheed have the ability to play the small forward for stretches? No team would be able to match up with the a front line with the size of Perk, KG, and Sheed (with Paul/Ray/Rondo/House in the backcourt). I think they also need to make a push for Grant Hill. If healthy, he would solve the backup small forward/shooting guard spot ALONG WITH the backup point guard spot. He has demonstrated in the past that he can bring the ball up. What are your thoughts...
12:09
Chad Finn -  Sheed can definitely handle small forward for short stretches -- he's more of a perimeter player on offense anyway. Defensively, that might be more of challenge, but one of the things that really appealed to the Celtics about him is his intelligence and commitment on both ends of the floor. Provided his skills don't erode rapidly -- he will be 35 when the season begins -- he is absolutely a PERFECT fit with this team.
12:10
Chad Finn -  And   I like the idea of Hill a lot -- selfless player, does a lot of things well. I have a feeling he ends up with the Knicks, but apparently Ray Allen was putting the Celtics sell on him last night, and this is his best shot at getting ring. I'll be bummed if it doesn't happen.

[Comment From D-Train]
When debating ugly departures, is it fair to put Nomah in the same class as Manny.
12:12
Chad Finn -  A lot of similarities, though I tend to think Nomar's beef with management was a little more justified than Manny's. Nomar is pretty disingenuous -- he always gave the fans the impression that he loved playing here even though his actions behind the scenes suggested anything but that -- and he wasn't completely honest about his contract situation or his injuries. But the Sox probably could have treated him with more respect in terms of what was leaked to the media. Manny's departure was much more devious, in retrospect.

[Comment From Bill]
What is more "radio gold" - Smerlas/Burton or Sterns/LJ?
12:14
Chad Finn -  Still laughing at the "radio gold" idea. More like radio ga-ga. I don't mind Stearns or Burton on the radio. They are what they are. But hearing Johnson suck up to Ordway after the Sheed press conference yesterday was pathetic.

[Comment From Ports]
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeed! (That is all.)
12:15
Chad Finn -  Well said.
12:16
Chad Finn -  I know that it was happy-happy-joy-joy time at the press conference, but Wallace really did come across as a likable guy, didn't he? First real glimpse we've had at why he's so popular with teammates and other players around the league. All we see are the scowls and the flip-outs on the refs.

[Comment From Carl]
Did you hear Fruity Felger get slammed by Doc this morning? Doc is now my favorite coach.
12:17
Chad Finn -  Missed that. But I like Felger, despite the contrived contrarian stuff, and as I wrote in today's media column, his Sunday night show on Comcast is very, very good.
12:17
Chad Finn -  What did   Doc say, anyway?
12:18
[Comment From George]
Could you inform all of the mouth breathers that the chance of Halladay being in a Sox uniform before 2011 is 0.0001%?
12:19
Chad Finn -  You did it for me, George. They need a bat, and if they trade any of their elite prospects, it will be for a quality hitter, not a 32-year-old pitcher whose contract is up in a year and a half. That's no knock on Halladay, whose greatness can't be denied, but that's just how it is.

[Comment From A-Mac]
Simmons doesn't think signing Grant Hill is a good idea (according to his latest Tweet). Can you please tell him he's wrong! Grant Hill off the bench = Tony Allen on the bench (and hopefully street clothes!
12:20
Chad Finn -  Simmons was really down on the Sheed signing, too. I wonder if he confused Wallace's disinterest last season with a decline.
12:20
Chad Finn -  Hill's a good fit. It's not like their asking him to start. Seems like a pretty damn good role player to me at this stage of his career.
