One of our producers in Ottawa - Janyce MacGregor - has been on Parliament Hill since early this morning. She says:

"At dawn on Parliament Hill there were only a dozen diehard Obama fans.   But as someone who's used to seeing Hill protesters and the like, I must note these are different from the people we usually see on the Hill. About 3/4 of them are black, clearly excited at the prospect of seeing this political rock star in the flesh."

Well, the wait will soon be over. Air Force One is on the move. Less than an hour to touchdown.

Phew.   I am finally installed in my designated location in the foyer of the house of commons for the news special.   I have shown my security pass 7 times, had my bag searched manually once, and later   put through a metal detector - as was I.   Aside from a slight setback due to some fancy buttons on my jacket, we passed.

See you on tv at 10.

[Comment From Ruth Theiv and 2/3 class]
It is 9:35 a.m. and my grade 2/3 class and I are eagerly awaiting the live coverage of President Obama's visit to Canada. We recently wrote to president Obama congratulating him on becoming the first African American president of the U.S.A and telling him about our study on acceptance and equality for all people. May this presidential visit strengthen the ties between our two countries!

CBCNews_PeterH -  There's been a lot of talk about security for the President, about "The Beast", the heavily armoured limo that Obama will ride in. Producer Julie Grenier got a peek at some of the arrangements this morning at Ottawa International Airport:

"

Media got a glimpse of the President's convoy as they filed through security in Hanger 11, which included a dozen black RCMP vehicles, a few local police cruisers and 3 ambulances. Also on stanby: Marine 1, the President's chopper. Not seen, however: Obama's limo, "The Beast" which is in a secure location nearby, just not on display for our prying eyes.
