I know that preseason polls are pretty much meaningless, but, looking at the current rankings, doesn't it appear that should OU win all their games leading up to the OU vs Texas game, that OU will once again overtake Texas in the polls due to the strengths of schedules between the two teams?

David Ubben -

That’s tough to say, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.   When OU and Texas play, the BCS polls won’t be out yet, so the computers won’t be a factor.   The human voters will still remember how last season ended, and Texas’ win in Dallas, so if both teams are still undefeated, moving to No. 2 will be difficult.

The only way I see OU jumping the Horns is if the Sooners blow out BYU and Miami and Texas wins a few of their first five games close.

What's the latest on the backup quarterbacks?
11:03
David Ubben -  Bob Stoops has still been pretty noncommital on that issue. Common sense says Landry Jones will be at the No. 2 spot, but Stoops has said it's possible he'll enter the season without naming a definite second guy.   But whoever ends up being below Sam on the depth chart will still split reps with the second team with the No. 3 guy. That's the one thing Stoops HAS said.

What have they decided to do with that middle linebacker spot? Is Balogun going to play or not?
11:05
David Ubben -  Well, if the issue isn't settled by the time BYU arrives, Balogun won't be on the field.   If they play him now, there's a chance for retroactive punishment, and Stoops won't take that chance.   As it stands, Ryan Reynolds will still be holding down the starting spot, but they've shuffled a few guys around as his backup.

Any way Calhoun sees the field very much? I know they've got Brown and Murray, but if Calhoun is as good as everyone says, there's no way they can leave him on the bench, right?
